Week 1

“A human being is part of the whole called by us universe,  a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty…We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.” – Albert Einstein

I have decided to move away from making my project about spirituality and consciousness as the main focus because these ideas are too abstract for me to realise them into an artwork. However, I still want there to be some form of these ideas in the response of the viewer of my final outcome.

I will instead focus on geometry and mathematics behind art and what this means for us as beings connected to the universe.

“The ancients believed that the experience of Sacred Geometry was essential to the education of the soul. They knew that these patterns and codes were symbolic of our own inner realm and the subtle structure of awareness. To them the “sacred” had particular significance involving consciousness and the profound mystery of awareness… the ultimate sacred wonder. Sacred Geometry takes on another whole level of significance when grounded in the experience of self-awareness.” [1]

I am fascinated by how geometry shows in a accessible way (aesthetically pleasing to most people as our senses are attracted to order and regularity) our connection with the universe by displaying it’s nature in it’s simplest forms.

My aim is going to be to immerse the viewer in this experience of universal contentedness.
