Dark Room (THE END)
The End is a film by me created for my AS Level Film Studies coursework to the brief, ‘dark-room’.
I worked independently (other than having an actor) to produce this horror short in which I have used cinematography, sound, mise-en-scene and editing to create suspense and unease in the viewer.
To create the right mise-en-scene I only kept items in the room that fitted the colour scheme and chose my actress’s clothes to coordinate. I also had to put up cardboard in the window to make it look like night-time since I was using the whole day to film it needed it to look convincingly dark.
In the editing process I graded the film to make it cool toned and have low-key high contrast lighting to create an eerie feel.
I also created Foley sounds for everything; from room ambience to the sound of her shifting in bed. All the sounds heard in the film were recorded by me in post-production. I also made sounds that created tension by using deep rumbling sounds and recorded from a piano (scraping the piano wires) which I used for the jump scares.
